Situated on the peninsula that is formed where the Kazinga Channel meets Lake Edward, Mweya Lodge is a reminder of colonial splendour in a country where much of that colonial heritage was violently suppressed.
The lodge offers 5-star levels of comfort and service, with excellent food and a comfortable atmosphere. The rooms or bungalows are well-furnished and have excellent facilities.
Located deep inside Queen Elizabeth National Park, the lodge offers some of the best game viewing in Uganda and the highlight for any visitor should be to take an organised boat-ride on the channel and get up close to hippos, elephants, buffalo and much more.
We love the fact that you can see banded mongoose and warthog around the lodge and that the hippos come right up to your door to mow the lawns at night. Just remember to get a guide back to your room in case there are lions on your porch.
It can be busy at times, and isn't as intimate as some of the smaller lodges, but still rates a good 8 / 10
